Llyn Idwal sharpening stones are used for super finish sharpening on KME and Hapstone knife sharpeners. Llyn Idwal stones are mounted on high-quality aluminum blanks.
Llyn Idwal Whetstone was mined in Llyn Idwal region, North Wales, in the United Kingdom. Estimated grit for the stone is #8000.
Llyn Idwal is preliminarily lapped and does not require lapping after purchase. Llyn Idwal stones should be used with oil or water as a lubricant. Llyn Idwal stones may have slight natural imperfections, inclusions and other minor defects not affecting the sharpening.
Advantages of aluminum blanks
- If you accidentally drop the stone, it's less likely you break it;
- Much longer life span for the stone after multiple flattening and lapping;
- Easy identification due to laser engraving;
- Reliable clamping for stones of imperfect shape.
Stones mounted on aluminum blanks are thicker than stock KME stones. We recommend using the thickness compensator if you use stones of different thickness.
