Description

Laser Goniometer is a tool of measurement of the sharpening angle of knives and scissors. It's the price-wise alternative of expensive equipment invented by CATRA.

Goniometer Lite is an incredibly simple, but sufficiently informative device. It utilizes a built-in laser source powered by one CR2032 battery. You can test knives up to 2" wide. The grind can be symmetric, asymmetric, multi beveled, or convexed. The maximum full angle 80 degrees.

Attention! There is no User's Guide.

To measure the angle for sharpening scissors, you need to place one half of the scissors to the edge of the center angle and move the stop to the angle. Read the data on the laser scale and add 45 degrees.

The photo shows an example of measuring the angle of an OLFA carton cutter described above. Unfortunately, the photo does not exactly match the original, because photographing a laser beam is fairly difficult - the flash distorts it. In reality, it is much clearer and more informative. However, even here you can see not only the basic sharpening angle (bevel towards the cutting edge) but also the secondary bevel, even though it is only 0.12mm wide (measured using a measuring microscope).

It arrived without a battery holder. I was told a return would happen, but 2 weeks later nada. I would not recommend.

Its harder to nest the blade in both V notches at the same time compared to the cheaper brand I was replacing. Im planning using a very thin saw blade to notch both V groves to make it align easier. I'm disappointed in this unit.

As others have found the battery cage detached from the board. Had to disasemble and solder the cage back to the board. Other than that it works

Okay, well... I received the goniometer and the battery began to die within an hour or two of use. When I went to replace it, I tried to pull it out of the device, and the metal battery housing disconnected from its solder points leaving the device non-functional. I emailed Gritomatic's support address three days ago with this information and picture, but they have not responded. In fact, the first I have heard from them is this email asking me to review it. So, here you go. Here's your review. It might have been different had you responded to my request for support before requesting a review.

Good device ... could use a few improvements The goniometer does what it is supposed to. It is a bit flimsy construction with no cover over the battery and the micro-switch is on the exposed circuit board. Where you stick your finger through a semi-circular hole in the case it looks like a part is missing, but it is not. I would suggest storing it in a small box to avoid damage and stuff getting in the circuit board. I wish the Pro and Master models were available, but this will work for now. As far as accuracy, it seems to be reasonably accurate on knives I know the angle. It does take a bit of practice to read non-polished edges and convex grinds.

Not functioning I was impressed by the delivery time, given I live in Australia. However the unit arrived with 2 parts 'floating' inside the packaging. I emailed Gritomatic the same day seeking assistance, but have not received any reply. $70 is a lot to pay for something you can't use!
